Aia delle Monache

In the province of Caserta we find a small new winery, Aia delle Monache, which is making a strong impression with its Pallagrello Bianco grape.  The Verzillo brothers bought two small vineyards of 2.5 hectares planted about 15 years ago.  In the area of Castel Campagnano, the beating heart of the indigenous Casavecchio vines of black and white Pallagrello.  Michele and Vittorio fell in love with the hill of vines looking towards the Massif del Matese on the other side of Mount Taburno.  The view is even more beautiful looking onto the convent known as Hermitage of Santa Maria degli Angeli.

The first harvesy was in 2016 with the advice of oenologist Gennaro Reale who shares in this project since the beginning.  Four wines are bottled which tell the stories of people, places and customs. The total production is about 10,000 bottles shared amongst two white wines made with Pallagrello Bianco, a red wine made with the Casavecchio grapes and, finally, the Pallagrello Nero.
