In 1869 the French Count, Theodore del Tour, decided to settle in this area, bringing with him a rich variety of vines and French techniques. Today his name remains on the most pretigious wines from Merlot and Sauvignon Graf del la Tour to the Chardonnay Gräfin de la Tour, all produced with top quality, specially selected grapes.
